Our History
The Jefferson Council (TJC) was formed in 2020 by concerned and invested alumni in response to two events. First, a University of Virginia task force publication calling for a billion-dollar overhaul in accordance with an ideologically radical vision of “equity.” Second, the infamous “F--- UVA” sign mounted on a Lawn resident’s door.
We spent our first year as an all-volunteer organization, primarily arranging events for diverse speakers and students to discuss ideas that they normally would not be exposed to on Grounds. We also dedicated significant time and resources to listening, learning, and documenting what was happening “on the ground” at UVA.
TJC has since become a robust network of over 3,000 UVA alumni, donors, students, and faculty who are committed to preserving a legacy of freedom and excellence at Mr. Jefferson’s university. Our events, original research, and valuable partnerships provide much-needed transparency, accountability, and support to the Board of Visitors so that they can lead UVA to once again become an institution marked by good stewardship, beauty, honor, and the free and civil exchange of competing ideas.
