TJC Mention in The Daily Progress: UVA Suspends Student Tours Accused of Pushing 'Woke' History

The decision comes after years of pressure from the Jefferson Council, a conservative alumni group, and less than two months after Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s appointments assumed a majority on the school’s governing Board of Visitors.
It also comes mere days after the university updated its policies limiting the time, place and manner of student protests after the Jefferson Council and other conservatives were critical of the school’s response to pro-Palestine rallies during the prior academic year.

“Although it would be presumptuous for me to say that TJC is primarily responsible for this occurrence, I think we are justifiably proud that our continually bringing up the Lawn Guides denigration of Thomas Jefferson and UVA had a large impact on this decision,” Neale wrote in an email to The Daily Progress. “It is long overdue.”

Neale suggested that the tours — and the guide’s “verbal abuse of UVA and its founder” — were a deliberate ploy by UVa intended to turn off students who might admire and honor the Jeffersonian legacy.
“The tragedy is that hundreds if not thousands of parents and prospective students elected not to attend UVA as a result of this not being rectified earlier,” said Neale.
