Former UVA Counsel & Jim Ryan Confidant Admits That “UVA Has Had some Programs that Crossed the Legal Line”

At a recent lecture hosted by the UVA Retired Faculty Association, former UVA Counsel Tim Heaphy, a long-time confidant to President Ryan, acknowledged that “the University historically has had some programs that crossed the legal line.” His statement indicates institutional awareness that historic policies did not comply with federal law and raises important questions about how those violations were allowed to continue and whether they have been fully remedied. View his remarks below.

UPDATE NOVEMBER 14: Tim Heaphy writes a letter to Governor Youngkin, saying that the Governor did not include the word “historically” in part of a quote in the Governor’s letter and says that UVA’s historic approach diversity was not “ignoring the law.” Read his letter.
