UVA’S NEW QUARTERLY COMPLIANCE REPORT

The second quarterly compliance report from the October 22, 2025 agreement between the Department of Justice and UVA is the first certification done by President Scott Beardsley, signed on March 31, 2026. It’s worth noting what’s new and what’s not in this installment.

What's the Same

This new report covers the same three areas of law (Titles VI, VII, and IX), uses the same methodology, and again certifies good-faith compliance efforts. The four units mentioned in the December report, including the School of Medicine, Medical Center, School of Nursing, and McIntire, appear again in this report.

What's Different

The March report adds two new units that were reviewed for compliance. The Darden School of Business and the Division of Student Affairs were not in the December report. Additionally, this report marked a correction from the December report regarding the School of Nursing. The December report stated that SON changes applied to "promotion and tenure" materials, when in fact they applied to "faculty and postdoctoral appointment" materials.

The new report also includes additional updates from the School of Medicine and McIntire. The Medical Center has withdrawn from the Health Equality Index while the School of Medicine has instituted new hiring manager training and updated employee resource group requirements. There were also changes to admissions regarding the Summer Medical Leadership Program. Additionally,  McIntire revised application essay prompts and updated networking event policies to be in compliance.

The March report outlines several changes to graduation and student programs. Notably, UVA will no longer organize or fund the Donning of the Kente, Lavender, and Multicultural Recognition Ceremonies. This marks a shift from the Ryan Administration, which continued these identity-based events despite DEI directives—a topic Jefferson Council highlighted last year through our successful DEIatUVA.com initiative. Additionally, other events targeting specific groups have been renamed to reflect broad engagement of all students, and some student affinity programs have been removed from Division administration. The report also confirms that the Student Health & Wellness department will no longer provide transgender care to patients under 19.
